VERBAL ENDORSEMENTS FROM MARKET RESEARCH

What do doctors think of Medipin? Market research between both family physicians and Hospital Doctors has shown a high degree of enthusiasm.

“I think I would really have this for my practice, I'm very impressed with it”

“I think it's excellent, great idea. It's a new invention and I think it will work. I mean it depends how much it costs but it's fantastic. I mean the needle, look at this you'll never puncture the skin with this I would much rather use this if I can get it"

“They are good, very good, excellent, well done”

“Brilliant”

“Our practice would buy them”

“It's a good invention. I would make more of the fact that you get a consistent pressure, it's good for mapping out an area and it's very useful for that”

“It's also much quicker as well because with a needle you have to be so much more careful with the pressure”

“It just looks more professional”

"The smart, small, simple plastic device that is the Medipin is the epitome of practicality and safety. Visual field testing by confrontation is a doddle with the Medipin. Pinprick testing is safe in almost all skin types. My first impression is why hasn't anyone developed this sooner. My second impression, I must have some in my surgery.

"The first few (diabetic) patients that I have used it on have tolerated the device well."

"I want all GPs to have the opportunity to try this out."

Dept Of Neurophysiology, National Hospital For Neurology And Neurosurgery

"A number of us have tried them in the Department on a number of occasions and we all very happy with them. They are easy to use and safe; they seem to do the job very well”.

Dr. John Patten BSc MB FRCP author of Neurological Diagnosis

“I would like to say how very impressed I am with this design. I can see no improvements you can make on it and I think it is an absolutely outstanding device”

"Since I first saw the Medipin, several companies have issued other devices. Some involve twisting a small plastic cover from the sharp end, but the devices were small and rather difficult to handle. The long thin devices with the sharp and blunt end came in a rather insecure box and this deposited some two hundred of them on the floor so I had to disqualify them for further use. The pin being smooth made it very hard to get a firm and consistent pressure on the shaft of the pin.

The beauty of the Medipin design is that the slightly roughened shaft means that it is easy to hold firmly but gently between the fingers, the shape of the end is particularly appropriate ensuring a nice squarely applied position on the skin, and the rounded end provides a wider area of touching, which I think makes it easier to distinguish between "not sharp" and a definite "blunt" sensation which is less likely to be misinterpreted. I hope these comments are helpful to you, and its use will be adopted with enthusiasm by my colleagues."

Dr Wendy Holden, The John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford & St George’s, London

"Easy to put in your pocket and not lose them compared to neurotips. I have found it impossible to pierce the skin with them. This is much better than a neurotip which goes straight through the skin of anyone with a neuropathy, since you press harder if the patient fails to respond! Very convenient to dispose of in a normal waste bin (although I am not sure that this would be advised by Health and Safety). Easy to tell which ones have been used as the tab gets broken off? With a neurotip, since there is never a sharps bin to hand, they inevitably get re-sheathed and put back in the pocket so you can't tell which have been used. Junior doctors are not renowned for good infection control measures and will therefore reuse a neurotip if there isn't another one handy."
